THE PANCYPRIAN GYMNASIUM MUSEUMS
The Museums of the Pancyprian Gymnasium - the oldest educational establishment of Secondary education in Cyprus - are located in a new museum space, at Nicosia’s historic centre beside the Pancyprian Gymnasium edifice, at the Agiou Ioannou and Thisseos streets.
Thanks to the collective effort displayed by the Board of Greek Schools of Nicosia and the Headmasters and Professors of the Pancyprian Gymnasium, the appropriate infrastructure was secured within the aforementioned location to house the school’s museum exhibits. The task of relocating and conserving the museum collections of the School was enhanced through the generous donation and the continuous support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation.
Apart from the Collection of the History of the School, the Museums of the Pancyprian Gymnasium consist of the following: the Archaeological Collection and the Numismatic Collection, the collection of Old Maps and the collection of Old Weaponry. There is also an Art Gallery with the work of great Cypriot painters who have served as teachers and students of the school, and a small Natural History Collection.
The collection is completed with a unique sample of gothic sculpture from Cyprus depicting Jesus Christ giving blessing - impressive by its size, workmanship, iconographical references and its good state of preservation.
